Why would you throw football boots over a telephone line?

I was out in Tean on Saturday and noticed that someone had managed to get an old pair of football boots to dangle from a telephone line over the High Street.

Part of me was impressed at the feat, part just annoyed that someone had risked putting out the phone lines with such a prank. Clearly I'm getting old.
